French energy firm EDF. who operate the Torness plant. say the decision follows "extensive technical and safety reviews".

The site, near Dunbar, had been due to be decommissioned in 2023 - the same year when EDF-owned Hunterston B nuclear power station in North Ayrshire is due to close.
