Longannet power station is switched off after 46 years

Scotland's last coal-fired power station, Longannet in Fife, has been closed down after almost 50 years.

There were emotional scenes in the control room as controller Bobby Smart pressed the button which saw output drop to zero.

Plant owners Scottish Power say the high cost of connecting to the national grid is the reason for the decision.
