Drilling rig blown ashore in storms off Western Isles

A salvage operation is getting under way in the Western Isles after a 17,000-tonne oil rig was blown ashore.

The Transocean Winner was under tow when it was hit by severe storms and ran aground last night on a beach near Carloway on the west coast of Lewis.

It has more than 70,000 gallons of diesel on board.
