Award nomination for Jedburgh man's brick collection

A Jedburgh man has been nominated for a heritage award in recognition of his work collecting more than 2,300 bricks.

Mark Cranston told the BBC that he first began collecting "the humble brick" when he realised what an important part it has played in Scottish history.

Brickworks across Scotland specialised in making fireclay bricks from the mid 19th Century, and were sought after across the world.

Even today, Mr Cranston says he receives emails from around the globe, from people interested in Scottish-produced bricks.

The Scottish Heritage Angel Awards will be announced on 18 October.
