The Queensferry Crossing sets new bridge record

The newest bridge over the Firth of Forth has set a new world record.

Guinness World Record officials have confirmed that the 644m (0.64km) centre deck of the Queensferry Crossing is the world's largest freestanding balanced cantilever.

Project manager Michael Martin told the BBC the record would not last long as once the other towers and viaducts are connected it will cease to be classed as a balanced cantilever.

The bridge is due to open in May 2017.
