Scottish opposition views on an indyref2 and Brexit

The triggering of Article 50 has stirred debate among Scotland's political parties on the prospect of a second vote on independence.

Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale told the BBC that her party would not block such a move after Brexit.

Speaking during a special BBC programme, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said that to hold such a vote would add to the division already caused by the UK leaving the EU.

An opinion not shared by Scottish Greens co-convener Patrick Harvie who said a vote should be held within the next two years to put an end to uncertainty.

Prime Minister Theresa May had called for the UK to come together in Brexit talks and to respect the outcome of the 2014 vote while Scottish government minister Mike Russell said a date for a second independence referendum "will have to be negotiated".
