'I was on a mission of self-destruction'

Matthew had his first drink at the age of eight. He has struggled with alcoholism ever since.

He says once his alcoholism began "there was no love for anyone else, there was only love for the alcohol".

Now in recovery at Abbeycare rehab centre near Wishaw, Matthew says that alcoholism is an "illness" which stopped him from dealing with his emotions.
