Bid to rescue stranded whale at Edinburgh beach

Attempts to rescue a whale which became stranded at a beach to the north of Edinburgh have failed.

A team from the British Divers Marine Rescue had spent the day in the water at Gypsy Brae in the Silverknowes area of the city trying to save the animal.

However, it died after suffering the what is thought to have been the equivalent of a stroke.

The alarm was raised after the whale was spotted on the foreshore on Tuesday morning.
