Billy Connolly: 'I spent many a happy hour at the Clutha bar'

Glasgow-born entertainer Billy Connolly visited the scene of the Clutha bar helicopter crash and laid flowers as a mark of respect to the nine people who died.

He told reporters he had been watching the unfolding events from his home in New York.

Connolly explained that he had played in the Clutha bar and its surrounding pubs during his early performing days.

"I spent many a happy hour there," he told the gathered media.

Connolly said the people of Glasgow had responded "unbelievably" well, adding that "everyone was talking about that, as well as the accident".

He added: "It is extraordinary, I was very, very proud to be a Glaswegian when I saw the degree to which they helped out there."
