John Swinney says independent Scotland's EU membership 'clear'

Scotland's Finance Secretary John Swinney says an independent Scotland would remain an EU member but it would have to negotiate its own terms.

The SNP minister spoke to BBC Radio Scotland's Good morning Scotland programme following newspaper reports saying the European Commission would require a go-alone Scotland applying for new membership.

Mr Swinney said: "What we have always accepted is there has to be a negotiation about the details and the terms of Scotland's membership of the EU."
