Scottish independence: Swinney on opportunities of voting 'Yes'

The Scottish government is preparing to publish a paper detailing how the powers secured with independence could be used to transform Scotland's economy.

Ahead of that launch, Scotland's Finance Secretary John Swinney said there were "opportunities arising as a consequence of independence".

He told BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme: "What we are aspiring to do is rival the growth of small European countries, which is around about an average of 3% - which is about 0.6% higher than where Scotland is today."

His comments comes hard on the heels of a report from the Institute for Fiscal Studies which warned that an independent Scotland would need to cut public spending or increase taxes to keep pace with the rest of the UK.
