Watchdog worried over doctor recruitment problems in Wales

More than half of the health boards in Wales say they are having problems recruiting doctors.

The revelation follows a decision by Neath Port Talbot Hospital to stop handling 999 medical emergencies and GP referrals due to a shortage of experienced staff.

Carol Lamyman-Davies, director of the Board of Community Health Councils in Wales, said the situation was "frightening", with the cost of using locums to fill the gap. She said that a Welsh government campaign launched in February to attract new doctors to Wales had so far failed.
