Poet Hedd Wyn's nephew recognised for services to heritage

The nephew of World War I poet Hedd Wyn will receive an MBE for an "exceptional contribution" to heritage.

Gerald Williams, 83, of Trawsfynydd, Gwynedd, has single-handedly farmed the poet's home, Ys Ysgwrn, since 1954, while also welcoming visitors from around the world.

Hedd Wyn - Ellis Humphrey Evans - died at the Battle of Passchendaele six weeks before the National Eisteddfod in 1917, at which he was awarded the Black Chair for his poem Yr Arwr (The Hero).

Mr Williams said the MBE was a "very big honour" for him.
