Nurses to counsel patients injured after excessive drinking

Nurses are to be trained to counsel patients who return to hospital after a drink-related injury.

The move is being made to help fight against the growing tide of binge drinking and alcohol related injuries and illnesses in Wales.

Experts say trials have shown that one in four of the thousands who drink dangerous amounts of alcohol in Wales can be helped to cut back.

The all-Wales initiative will be launched in Cardiff later on Thursday.

Professor Jonathan Shepherd, the director of violence and society research group at Cardiff University, told the BBC's Bethan Rhys Roberts how having a word worked.
