Dogs dumped by struggling owners

The number of dogs abandoned by owners who cannot afford to keep them has risen sharply say animal charities.

They believe the economic downturn has made some hard-up families re-assess their financial priorities.

More than 10,000 stray dogs were picked up by local authorities across Wales in the last 12 months - and animal welfare organisations are struggling to re-home them.
