The Beatles brought 'high excitement' to Mold

It is 50 years since The Beatles came to Mold in what was only their third gig in Wales.

Radio Wales programme When Wales Was Fab spoke to fans who were there about the excitement it caused in the town.

However, this was pre-Beatlemania so, as one puts it, there was "high excitement but not hysteria".

The programme also spoke to Ian Millington, who was a part-time roadie for Dave Roman and The Chariots who supported The Beatles in Mold.

They were the regular support band for the Liverpool groups who came to play at Mold Assembly Rooms.

Now a GP in Swansea, the roadie said he remembered The Beatles manager Brian Epstein's shoes because they were not the sort usually seen in Mold.

When Wales Was Fab, BBC Radio Wales, 20 January at 17:30 GMT, and repeated 22 January at 05:30 GMT
