Welsh language campaigners mark Trefechan bridge protest anniversary

This weekend marks 50 years since a group of campaigners sat in the middle of one of Aberystwyth's busiest roads to call for more protection for the Welsh language.

It was the first protest to be staged by Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (Welsh Language Society), to be followed by many more in the decades following.

But the anniversary comes at the end of the a week when census figures showed the language is in decline, even in its heartlands.

Cemlyn Davies reports.
