Worries for future of local press in Wales after job cuts

Are we seeing the "death throes" of the press industry in Wales?

The media expert from Cardiff University, Dr John Jewell, thought so when Trinity Mirror announced more job cuts this week across their Welsh titles, including 16 at the Western Mail and South Wales Echo.

Trinity Mirror has said the decision was not easy but the company had to "re-engineer the way we work" if its journalism was to thrive in the future.

It called the move "a bold, imaginative step that will enable us to become a fully-fledged, digitally-focused news operation".
