WNO chief David Pountney defends public funding for arts

The artistic director of Welsh National Opera (WNO) has defended the amount of public money spent on the arts, saying we risk "turning back into animals" without the country's cultural institutions.

WNO relies heavily on public subsidy, but David Pountney has told BBC Wales that the arts give a lot more value to society.
