Horsemeat fears prompts Carmarthenshire firm to pull stock

A Carmarthenshire food company has withdrawn one of its products following concerns about possible horsemeat contamination.

Castell Howell Foods, based in Cross Hands, says it is contacted the five customers who received deliveries of a range of cottage pies.

The company says the pies in question were not produced locally but were imported from Ireland.

It says it is withdrawn them as a precaution and there is no evidence that they contained horsemeat.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, beefburgers have been taken off school dinner menus in Flintshire as a precaution.

Officials say traces of horse DNA have been found on the premises of a meat supplier that provides meat to the burger company.

But tests have revealed no traces of the DNA in burgers.
