Truancy prosecutions rise 700% over the past five years
The numbers of parents being prosecuted in Wales for truancy by their children have risen 700% over the past five years, BBC Wales has found.
Court cases for failing to send a child to school rose from 60 in 2007 to nearly 500 in 2011.
Merthyr Tydfil council said asking for conditional discharges had been more successful than fining parents.
