Rhondda boxer Tommy Farr remembered on his centenary
Tuesday, 12 March marks 100 years since boxer Tommy Farr was born in Clydach Vale in the Rhondda.
He became Welsh, British and Empire heavyweight champion in the 1930s.
In August 1937, he challenged Joe Louis for the world title at Yankee Stadium in New York.
He lost on points but for the thousands listening at home on radio he was a boxing hero in one of the first major transatlantic sports broadcasts.
Stephen Fairclough reports.
