While talk of a new conflict on the Korean peninsula is worrying, technically the North and South have been at war for more than 60 years.

It was a rare example of the Cold War turning hot - pitting the US and its allies against the USSR, North Korea and communist China.

Almost 100,000 British troops fought there in battles as bloody as any seen before or since, yet many veterans still think of it as the forgotten war.

David St John Griffiths, from Cardiff, who is now in his 80s, was then a 19-year-old corporal in the Royal Engineers. He spoke to Vaughan Roderick on BBC Radio Wales' Sunday Supplement.
