Margaret Thatcher 'very complimentary' despite loss

Former Tory MP and Welsh Office minister Rod Richards said Margaret Thatcher was "very complimentary" to him in a phone call despite losing the Conservative-held Vale of Glamorgan seat in a by-election in 1989.

Mr Richards was later elected as an MP in 1992 and served as a junior Welsh Office minister in John Major's government.

He told Karl Necke of BBC Wales that Baroness Thatcher was right to take on the trade unions and to give ordinary people a stake in society by letting them buy their council homes.
