Teachers' union reacts to education minister's departure

A teachers' union leader and a senior education advisor reflect on the legacy of former Education Minister Leighton Andrews and say the momentum to improve standards should not be lost.

Anna Brychan from the National Association of Headteachers in Wales said despite "ding dongs" with Mr Andrews he had made a big impact on trying to improve education for pupils and students.

Meanwhile, Prof David Egan, a former special advisor for the Welsh government between 2005 and 2007, told Oliver Hides on BBC Radio Wales that Mr Andrews had focused minds to say "we can't be complacent".

Mr Andrews quit after a row over his defence of a school which faced closure under his own surplus places policy.
