Huw Lewis handed Wales education job

Huw Lewis has been named as the new education minister in the Welsh government.

He replaces Leighton Andrews who resigned following a row over his support for a school in his constituency which faced closure under his own surplus places policy.

Born in Merthyr Tydfil, Mr Lewis is a former chemistry teacher and moves across from his post as minister for communities and tackling poverty.

He outlined his priorities in his new job to BBC Wales political editor Betsan Powys.
