Jeremy Kyle in no-nonsense jobs drive in Cardiff

Daytime TV host Jeremy Kyle has been on a mission to get people back in work.

The straight-talking presenter is taking part in a jobs roadshow organised by The Sun newspaper , externalin Cardiff.

The 48-year-old said: "There were so many people here with stories who've tried really hard to get jobs and they haven't had success.

"You want to say to people, look, we're not being idealistic, I know it's difficult and I know it's hard.

"It's hard, it's not nice, it's not easy every time you get rejected."

Kyle said the jobseekers he met were mainly positive.

"When people tell me there's apathy and then I see people, like, turning up today in their droves I think it's excellent," he said.

Kyle said he knows what it is like to be made redundant.

Eight years ago, at the age of 40, he lost his job at Virgin Radio, now Absolute.

"I was out of work for, probably, about six months. I had a clear idea about what I wanted to do - I wanted to be in TV so I went to meeting after meeting after meeting. I had a six-month-old baby and a family to support.

"I'm sure that everyone has been in a situation in their lives where they've had to change their game plan."

He told BBC Wales' Elise Jenkins people looking for work should be making their own opportunities.
