Rural crime down in Wales says NFU Mutual survey

Rural crime has fallen in Wales by nearly one-fifth, according to new figures gathered by an insurance firm.

NFU Mutual said losses in Wales fell by 17% from £2.3m in 2011 to £1.9m in 2012, while across the UK it fell 20% from £52.7m to an estimated £42.3m.

But quad bikes, livestock and oil and diesel are still being targeted in Wales, the survey found.

The statistics also suggest most rural crime is planned rather than opportunist, the insurer said.
