Chartered surveyors see housing market signs of recovery

The price of homes in Wales is rising faster than the cost of living, according to new official figures.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) says there has been a 4.3% rise in house prices in the year to June, higher than the UK average rise of 3.1%.

Meanwhile a survey by the influential Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors suggests its members in Wales are seeing a pick up in demand as well as rising prices.

BBC Wales economics correspondent Sarah Dickins told Lucy Owen the organisation was seeing "a bit more optimism" in Wales.
