Let Wales run Royal Mail, says Plaid Cymru leader
Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood wants to see Royal Mail in Wales taken on by the Welsh government as the UK government plans its privatisation.
She is calling for the idea to get cross-party support from Wales' other political parties and has written to Business Secretary Vince Cable putting her case.
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said its policy for UK postal services would remain as it was.
"Our reforms of the postal sector - including a sale of shares which will give Royal Mail future access to private capital - will ensure that Royal Mail has a sustainable future and that the universal service is maintained throughout the UK," said a spokesman.
Meanwhile, a Welsh government spokesperson said: "We do not support the privatisation of the Royal Mail and would be concerned if communities in Wales were adversely affected by its new owners' drive to make profits, particularly if people's jobs were put at risk.
"We will continue to engage with the Royal Mail to make our concerns known."
