Paul Flynn defends ousted Gwent Police chief Carmel Napier

The MP for Newport West says less emphasis should be placed on crime figures and police should be allowed to get on with their core jobs.

Paul Flynn's comments come as Gwent Police's figures were put under scrutiny because of how they were recorded.

It was one of the issues raised by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Ian Johnston, with the former chief constable, Carmel Napier, before he forced her to retire earlier this year.

Mr Flynn told Oliver Hides on BBC Radio Wales that Ms Napier was owed an apology.
