Cancer survey: 'Indescribable' shock at cancer diagnosis

A mother of two and NHS worker from Cardiff has told of her "indescribable" shock when she was diagnosed with head and neck cancer.

Bronwen Davies was on her own when given the news in 2009 and said doctors should have advised her to bring a relative or friend with her.

"I didn't think it would be cancer as I felt so well," she said.

"I didn't take my husband and was planning on going back to work.

"The shock of that was quite indescribable. I feel I really should have been told to bring a family member or a friend with me."

Ms Davies was speaking as a survey of more than 7,000 cancer patients found that nearly nine out of 10 respondents gave high marks to their care in the NHS.
