Economy in parts of Wales lags further behind European average

The economy of west Wales and the south Wales valleys has fallen further behind the European average, according to new figures.

That is despite the country receiving billions of pounds worth of funding from Brussels to help build the economy.

A Welsh government spokesman said: "These figures are three years old and do not reflect the improvements in the Welsh economy."
