Snooker still 'frowned upon' as children's sport, says coach

Wales has had a disappointing start to this year's World Snooker Championship.

In previous years it has been a hotbed of talent, producing world champions like Terry Griffiths and Mark Williams.

But while Dominic Dale, Michael White and Ryan Day are through to the main draw at Sheffield's Crucible, Williams, Matthew Stevens and Jamie Jones have all been knocked out at the qualifying stage.

Coach Anthony Davies said it was still frowned upon as a sport for children but he insisted snooker halls were not "smokey dens of iniquity".

Griffiths said Wales' past success would continue in the future.
