All Saints Church, Maerdy, bell moved to primary school

A bell in memory of 81 miners killed in the 1885 Maerdy Colliery disaster has been re-dedicated at a primary school after the church which formerly housed it closed.

Parishioners at All Saints Church in Maerdy held a sit-in protest in 2011 after the Church in Wales said it could not meet a £400,000 repair bill.

But now the bell has a new home at Maerdy Community Primary School.

Jenny Rees reports.
