Urgent call to improve diabetes care in Wales after patient death

The care of diabetic patients in Welsh hospitals must be improved urgently, the family of a man who died as a result of failures has said.

Relatives of David Joseph, 80, said pledges made by health care inspectors in the wake of their father's death had not been kept.

Monitoring failures contributed to his hypoglycaemic attack and he later suffered a heart attack. He died in 2009.

Heath Inspectorate Wales admitted progress on improvements was slow.

Jason Harding, policy manager for Diabetes Cymru, said many patients had experienced similar failings.
