Tata Steel cuts 400 Port Talbot jobs

Tata Steel is making 400 people at its steelmaking plant in Port Talbot redundant as part of a restructure of the site.

The company said it had to make the cuts to remain competitive, blaming a downturn in the market, high energy costs and higher business rates than European competitors.

Martin Brunnock, Tata's UK technical director for strip products, told BBC Wales the changes were about building a sustainable future for the site.
