The Waverley fails to dock at Llandudno pier's new stage
The world's last working sea-going paddle steamer, The Waverley, failed to dock at Llandudno Pier on Wednesday to mark the re-opening of the town's landing stage.
Around 1,000 passengers were hoping to be taken on a short cruise after her arrival from Liverpool.
But they were disappointed and were forced to watch the steamer approach and turn back.
Around £330,000 has been spent repairing the landing stage at the end of the pier so that ships can call again, and bring extra revenue to the town's tourist industry.
Had the Waverley docked, it would have been the first time a ship had landed in Llandudno for around a decade.
Champagne, canapés and a welcome from the town crier were all ready to welcome the first passengers ashore.
Strong winds were to blame.
