Nato: RAF Merlin flies above Cardiff gardens

World leaders are due to start arriving in Wales later for the Nato summit in Newport.

As well as the high security operation around venues and on the streets, residents in the city and neighbouring Cardiff are getting used to some unusual sights in the skies.

Military helicopters and other aircraft have been spotted - with this video of a RAF Merlin helicopter above gardens in Canton in Cardiff.

Normally based at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire, it is currently based at RAF St Athan for the duration of the meeting of heads of government of the western defence alliance.

It was joined briefly by a police helicopter too.
