Sir Tom Jones on under-fire Delilah song

Sir Tom Jones says he is proud that his song Delilah has become an anthem at Welsh rugby games, despite the fact it has been labelled inappropriate over claims it promotes domestic violence.

Former Plaid Cymru president and folk singer Dafydd Iwan has called for the iconic ballad to be abandoned at matches because of its violent lyrics.

He said the song tends to "trivialise the idea of murdering a woman".

The Welsh Rugby Union disagrees and compared the lyrics to Shakespeare plays such as Romeo and Juliet.

Treforest-born Sir Tom said he loves to hear it sung at Welsh rugby games and said he doesn't think the crowds really think about the lyrics when singing it.
