Swansea OAP's two-and-a-half hour wait for ambulance

As part of BBC Wales' Health Check Wales, Nigel Edwards, chief executive of the health research organisation Nuffield Trust, went behind the scenes to hear people's experiences of the NHS.

He spoke to John and Gaynor Scott, whose 92-year-old mother Gwen Charles fell and broke her hip in the garden but had to wait two-and-a-half hours outside for an ambulance to take her to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

She is now in a rehabilitation hospital but has been waiting two weeks for her care plan to be put in place so she can go home.

At the Royal Glamorgan Hospital near Pontypridd, Ruth Alcolado, clinical director of acute medicine, explains how they try to bring together all departments and agencies to make it easier for patients to move through the hospital.
