A&E target times a red herring says Nuffield Trust chief

Nigel Edwards, chief executive of the health think-tank The Nuffield Trust, takes a closer look at the working of the NHS in Wales as part of BBC Wales' Health Check Wales week.

Mr Edwards looks at what impact missed ambulance and A&E targets has on getting patients through the system.

He called A&E waiting time targets "a bit of a red herring" when examining what causes delays.

He said: "The real key to getting patients seen quickly is the ability to move them through the hospital and discharge them safely and effectively back to the community."
