Crime commissioner: 'Nonsense' that cuts will hinder police

Buses in north Wales are to carry adverts warning cuts to the police budget could spell the end of neighbourhood policing.

North Wales Police Federation's Cuts Have Consequences campaign will see 38 buses in the force area carry messages opposing the cuts.

However, North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Winston Roddick said he was satisfied the force would be able to police the area effectively despite the cuts.

Speaking to BBC Wales, he said: "Of course the cuts have been substantial in the past and there are more to come".

"It's not good news for the police," he added but called it "nonsense to suggest that cuts inevitably reduce the effectiveness of our police service".
