Schoolchildren explore Gavin and Stacey effect on Barry

The beaches of Barry Island were once a favourite summer destination for people from across the UK.

But the advent of cheap foreign holidays in the 70s led to a sharp decline in the town's fortunes - that's until Gavin and Stacey came to town, bringing a new wave of tourism.

The final episode was broadcast here more than five years ago - so has the Gavin and Stacey effect lasted?

School reporters from Ysgol Bro Morgannwg in Barry have been finding out.

You can see stories by other young reporters from around the UK on the BBC News School Report website: bbc.co.uk/schoolreport
