Wales Coast Path detour for walkers if bridge closes

A bridge on the Wales Coast Path could be off limits to walkers and cyclists, forcing a 16-mile detour if Gwynedd council stops funding it.

The council is considering withdrawing its annual £30,000 funding for the Victorian Barmouth bridge, which carries Cambrian Coast trains to Fairbourne and provides a footpath over the River Mawddach.

The council faces £9m cuts and said this was one option being discussed.
