Cadw images of Welsh castles as the Victorians saw them

They are Wales' most famous landmarks - but we can now see how our ancestors saw them.

Historic monuments body Cadw has published photographs of 11 castles and an abbey, taken at the end of the 19th Century.

Colours were built up from black and white negatives and are now part of a collection held by the US Library of Congress.

Ken Skates, deputy minister for tourism, said: "It is fascinating to compare images of our historic sites today with those taken more than 100 years ago."
