Sea Empress disaster: How the oil spill was reported

It is 20 years since the Sea Empress ran aground off south west Wales and spilled 72,000 tonnes of oil over 120 miles of coastline.

The ship was en route to the Texaco oil refinery near Pembroke when it became grounded on mid-channel rocks at St Ann's Head.

It was Britain's third largest oil spillage at the time.
