Cardiff scientists to use hops to stop cows producing methane
Tea, hops, honey and marine sponges are all among the natural products Welsh scientists are targeting in the hunt for sources of new antimicrobials.
Cardiff University's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science has turned to natural products to combat the increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotics.
One project sees the unlikely possibility that the hops used to produce beer could tackle global warming.
Dr James Blaxland said a specially-devised hops-based feed for cows could prevent the bacteria that causes cattle to produce methane.
