Grandfather's service medal a 'very nice surprise'

The grandson of a WW1 soldier said it was a "very nice surprise" receiving his Victory Medal after it was found in a field in Porthcawl, Bridgend county.

The medal, belonging to Pte William John Boaden of the 3rd Battalion Devonshire Regiment, was unearthed using a metal detector.

Stephen Boaden said the medal was not just something that belonged to his grandfather, but was "evidence of his service to his country".
