Rhyl Sun Centre: Tropical paradise lost

When it was opened in 1980, the Rhyl Sun Centre was the largest indoor pool in Europe, boasting a state-of-the-art surfing pool, a monorail and a lagoon pool with waves and intermittent tropical rain showers.

Falling visitor numbers and high maintenance costs forced its closure in 2014 and it is set to be demolished this autumn.

This BBC archive footage comes from its mid-80s heyday.
